PocketBell is an alarm clock app that offers an alternative to the standard buzzers and ringers of mobile devices. Users can be awoken with their favorite radio-station, audio file (MP3) or even with a YouTube video. One simple swipe dismisses the alarm.
The app is designed for maximum simplicity and a minimum of unnecessary features. The alarm settings can be adjusted according to individual needs. Besides a variety of different alarm sounds, the user can also decide how he or she wants to turn off the alarm: flipping, shaking, lifting etc. The app supports multiple languages.
Unlike other alarm clock apps, PocketBell does not use advertisements. However, some radiostations start streaming with short product placements at the beginning of their stream.
The paging device, known as "poke-beru" in Japan, reached its peak of popularity in 1996 when as many as 10 million units were sold. But the business was quickly overtaken by cellphones. In the Philippines, several paging companies - including Multi-Media Telephony Inc., now merged with the Ayala Group's Globe, Message Systems Inc. and PLDT's Smart Communications Inc. - shut down, while others merged with call centers, like EasyCall Communications Inc. owned by the Santiago family.
The app features a widget to keep all upcoming alarms on the home screen. Alarms can be activated, deactivated or skipped directly from the homescreen or as notifications. The Pro version of PocketBell enables a customizable snooze schedule and unlimited alarm durations.
